Question by Anonymous: How accurate is the Autism Quotient test?
I received a 46 (out of 50) on the AQ test. I want to know how accurate that is, and if there are any other tests to see if I have Asperger’s. Thanks.

It is accurate in the sense that individuals with an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), on average, score higher than the general population. The authors of the test noted scores of above 32 as being potentially indicative of ASD (1).
It is not, however, meant as a diagnostic tool in itself, and it is certainly possible to score highly whilst not having having an ASD. To my knowledge, the AQ is the only widely used questionnaire type test for that kind of thing, but no questionnaire alone is a suitable to make a diagnosis (either your own or by a professional) of ASD, at best it is an initial screening method. If you are concerned, you should go to a doctor or psychologist who can assess you more fully. Usually, a diagnosis is made on the basis of interviews (both with yourself and possibly parents/family members) and observation.

Question by DeadManPoet: The scores on the Autism Quotient Spectrum test and others are fascinating. Is this test accurate?
I am 22, female, and my scores were AQ- 25, SQ 41, EQ 15
This doesn’t completely surprise me. I’ve always been abnormal, to say the least. I am curious, is this accurate concerning Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome?
Thanks.

Online tests like the Autism Quotient Spectrum test are not very reliable or accurate and they are not meant to be used as a tool to diagnose autism spectrum disorders. They are a useful tool to find out how likely it is that you may have an autism spectrum disorder and whether there is a reason to consult a professional.
A high score on this test does not necessarily mean that you have any disorder. It just suggests that it might be good for you to seek a professional opinion about it.
If you think you may have Asperger’s syndrome or some other form of autism, avoid self-diagnosing and rather leave the diagnosing to professionals, who have a lot more education, information and experience and more accurate methods to diagnose disorders like AS/autism.

Autism Test Could Use Images of Brain
I’m Alex Villarreal with the VOA Special English Health Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Doctors currently identify autism disorders by observing behavior. Autism affects social and communication skills. It usually first appears in young children. Now, researchers in the United States think they have found a biological test for autism. A team from Harvard University in Massachusetts and the University of Utah developed it.The test uses an MRI or magnetic resonance imaging machine to look for abnormalities in the brain. Other studies have not shown major structural differences between the brains of autistic people and those without autism. But the latest study did not look at the large structures of the brain. Instead, Harvard’s Nicholas Lange says the team looked at the circuitry — the chemical and electrical pathways that link the different parts of the brain. He says: “The brain may be OK, the parts that do the work may be OK. But the wiring, the cables between the points in the brain, one to another, may be disrupted in some way.”The scientists did MRI scans on sixty males between the ages of eight and twenty-six. Thirty of them had been identified as having mild autism, a form also known as high-functioning autism. The researchers looked at the connections in two areas of the brain that control language and social behavior. They used a technique called diffusion tensor imaging. This way they could observe microscopic fibers to see how well the brain circuitry …

autism test:
Question by Mom of 1: Should I let a theropist test my son for autism?
My son is two and he don’t talk much. I don’t think he has a problem but the Dr made him start speech therapy, now they want him tested for autism. I feel they are trying to label my son. Should I let them and when should enough be enough?
Best answer:
Answer by Gina M
you cant let your own issues with them ‘labelling’ your son stop him from getting the proper care he needs, the GP will know more about the signs of autism than you will and if they can do a test to find out for sure then surely you would want to know so that you can help him in any way you can to live a normal life.

We also catch up with Professor Simon Baron-Cohen to discuss the results of this test and what they mean. This new series explores the conditions and ailments that leave many of us a little red-faced and aims to de-stigmatise common complaints. Three doctors — Dawn Harper, Christian Jessen and Pixie McKenna — will be throwing open the doors of the clinic in a bid to tackle each condition head on, while attempting to take away the sting of shame.

Question by mslatin: Anyone know what the IgG4 means with allergy test results? And how this may relate to Autism?
My friends son has autism and his test results came back stating that the IgG4 was extremely high and the specialist told her “We don’t know what this means?” And it seems to me that someone should know something about this. Oddly enough, his blood results came back the same way. Does anyone have any insight as to what this may mean?

Asperger’s/Autism severity test
First: If this is important to you and you receive a high enough score, I recommend seeing a doctor. UPDATE: I took the test again and come to find out my tendencies have gotten a bit more severe considering I scored a 50/50. Then again I’ve been re-diagnosed as having Severe Asperger’s Syndrome. This is called an AQ test, here’s the link: www.wired.com

www.AutismCauses1.com — Autism – How Medical Testing Can Help Individuals with autism can and do lead normal lives with the proper medical care and treatment. The various medical testing that can provide doctors with the information they need in order to properly treat autism include food allergies, heavy metals, vitamin analysis, neurotransmitters, amino acids, Candida, fatty acid profile, and histamine levels. In order to treat children with autism parents as well as doctors will need to determine what type of therapeutic option will work best for each child. Each child with autism is different just as each child is different. The nervous system imbalances and immune system imbalances will need to be identified prior to developing targeted therapeutic treatment plans. Neurotransmitters testing will show imbalances in the chemistry of the brain which can impact behavior and learning. Children with autism often have high levels of Candida in their intestines and low levels of essential fatty acids. It is recommended that the following lab tests be done to help determine the best medical care: o food allergy testing o intestinal barrier function tests o neurotransmitter testing For more information, please visit: www.AutismCauses1.com

Nothing happens. Those tests are not very accurate and it would take a heck of a lot more than that to confirm you had autism. And even then.. it is just a label. Doesn’t change the person you are just because they stamped you with some ‘diagnosis’. I would say call it a silly test and walk away from it.
