Meet Nathan and William
Meet my twins sons Nathan and William. They turned two on February 28 (their birthday is really Feb. 29). Please take a moment to watch their story. You will be glad you did. They make me proud everyday. The song really expresses what I am feeling.

Parents struggling with Autism in infants are discovering that they must be shown a new group of skills to deal with all the different situations, uncover the rules of the game at AutismInToddlers.net
Hmm, I knew when I clicked this video that it would be full of ignorant comments. I am studying to be a special education teacher and currently studying the Autism module. Why people insist on blaming this that and the next thing for Autism, is just beyond me. I am an adult with a mild Autistic Spectrum Disorder, and my life is happy and meaningful. With the right kind of interventions, Autistic people can lead perfectly meaningful lives… best of luck to you xx
That said, your little boys are beautiful, and I wish you all the best of luck.
This video, and the comments that followed, actually frightened me, more-so than helped me. As a parent to a young child with developmental delays (we’ve not had a diagnosis made yet), comments like “Less than 1% of adults with autism live independently. They live in poorly run and funded institutions and group homes” , and, “The autism population has 3 times the mortality rate than the general public”, are just plain SCARY. While they may be facts, I wish I hadn’t read them.
This is so sad, Those Fucking vaccines..
Beautiful video. My daughter was diagnosis at 2 and my story is similar to yours. At 15 months after a recieving three shots she began to lose language and social skills she had learned. You are doing a wonderful job. Also, please stop responding to these internet thugs. They have nothing better to do with their lives than stir up trouble. Trust me ….ignore them and they will go away.
Wow….I’m so touched by your video and so heartbroken for what you’re going through. My prayers are with your family and your beautiful baby boys! You’re doing an amazing job! I’m hoping you have a support system (friends, family, church, etc…) that can be there for you. Its a lot for you and your husband to handle alone. Big Hugs!!!
I have twin boys too, born soon after yours, and both have autism. I understand your struggles and your joys! A great vid, made me a bit teary. Best of luck on your journey!
@soleilsolariv And thank you so much for your kind words. They mean a great deal to me. I wish the best for you and your family.
@soleilsolariv Thimrosal, the mercury containing toxin you are referring to, were only removed from “Childhood Vaccines”. It is still used in other vaccinations including the flu shot-of which my twins received a series of 2 at 6 months. Further vaccines also contain a multitude of other toxins, including, but not limited to: animal fetal byproducts, gelatin, sucrose, formaldehyde, compounds obtained by distillation of coal tar, human aborted fetal tissue, aspartame, and monosodium glutamate
@09gayles You should educate yourself before you make absurd judgments and irrational arguments. My approach to autism is strong, determined, where I give every ounce of energy and piece of myself to their healing. If you had paid attention you would have seen how I stated I will never give up and have set up multiple therapies, all of which I pay for out of pocket. I am a strong determined mother and many have called me inspirational and I talk about recovery and healing. You are mean spirited
@09gayles Less than 1% of adults with autism live independently. They live in poorly run and funded institutions and group homes. They are not given the medical treatment they need. Your argument is ridiculous. You are comparing apples to oranges. It it like saying that a mother who is upset because her child was in a car accident and has permanent brain damage does not have the same right to her pain as a mother with a child with a “disease” rather than an injury. I am entitled to my pain.
@09gayles Educate yourself, most children with autism struggle with medical conditions – GI issues, immune systems being compromised, oxidative stress, cell dysfunction, metabolic issues. The autism population has 3 times the mortality rate than the general public!!!! THREE TIMES!! And the top 6 causes of death are not accidental. Autism comes with many medical comorbidities. I find your lack of information REALLY OFFENSIVE. AUTISM IS A DISEASE WHICH ATTACK MULTIPLE SYSTEMS IN THE BODY!
@09gayles We cannot go out in public often as they attempt to run away, they are considers “runners” – an autism term. I go for days without showering because of the intensity of their care. INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER ANY TREATMENT FOR AUTISM and has left us financially devastated. We have been rejected by my husband’s family who have no contact with my sons. They are chronically ill due to their compromised immune systems. And on top of it I have to deal with ignorant people like you.
@09gayles You couldn’t do one day in my shoes. The self injurious behavior, the meltdowns. the aggressive behavior, the inability to speak or express themselves. They sleep about 5 hours a night, never more than 2 hours. They are anxious and overstimulated most of the time. I cannot leave them alone for a moment as they are a danger to themselves. They are sick and have weak immune systems, seizures, and Mitochondrial Dysfunction, meaning their cells cannot produce enough oxygen.
@teazil if you want to remove my comment – you can and I’m not being smart either, I respect your position as a mother to two wonderful sons. you’ll have to forgive my disbelief with politicians and so called medical professionals, they all have their own agenda’s. my uncle recieved none of the vaccines that are being held responsible, I know 3 kids who have ASD that received no vaccines, I didn’t have these innoculations and I tick every box for AS. I apologise for my use of “retarded”
@sunflower30stm Thank you for this. This made my day and I really, really needed it today. Bad autism day. Bad behavior day. Bad lack of family support day. Bad using up all financial resources for therapy day. Just a bad day, but this made me smile through the tears. Even if my sons never reach this level of functioning (although oh how I pray that they do), I am so happy for you, your family and you nephews. They are courageous and inspirational men.
@lexsis35 I do not want to remove your comment because I am open to an educated debate regarding the vaccine issue and believe I can always learn something new. However, in the future I would encourage you to find more mature and intelligent ways to present your views when you disagree with someone. Name calling is childish, small minded, and degrades the one who is calling the name more than one being called a name. It suggests you lack the verbal ability to argue your position.
@lexsis35 I find the use of the word retarded very offensive and uncalled for. The general stance of the medical community is changing to the Autism/Disease position and ditching it as a psychological disorder. It is being added to classes in medical schools and their is talk of removing it from the DSMV (the diagnostic criteria for all psych disorders). In Aug of ’10, a US Senate Subcommittee stated that they believe autism has an environmental element and a strong immune system involvement.
it would be nice to be able to point the finger at vaccines, however, the chemical that ‘supposedly’ increases autism risk was taken out many years ago so i wouldnt assume it was the vaccine alone. autism is much more complicated than a simple toxic exposure which is why its so hard to diagnose and treat.
but regardless, those are sweet baies and i hope for the best. i have seen lots of progress in the autism field and seen many miracles, hopefully ur story will have a happy ending too.
This video almost made me cry. I can’t imagine how you must feel. Your twin boys are adorable. I hope one day your kids can overcome this. I’m going to keep them in my prayers. God bless you, your children, and your family. If they ever see this when they grow up, they’ll be proud, even if they don’t show it. You’re a amazing mom, never give up!
SIncerely,
Elizabeth (:
@baruchinbar Dont be so retarded, sorry but Autism is not caused by poisoning of the nervous system – they “think” genetics play a role – my oldest is autistic(AS), my uncle is AS, I and my sister both tick every box for AS and now my youngest is being tested – so stop with the raw vegan push – it is healthier but it is not a cure for autism, autism is the way the brain is hardwired, it is not a friggin disease and that’s just the way it is.
my oldest(he’s 15) has aspergers syndrome, only diagnosed a year ago, I felt relief. On the day your beautiful son Nathan was diagnosed, I gave birth to my 3rd son – Daithi – the health professionals think he is autistc, I think he is autistic. I hope we are all wrong. I feel your pain but it will get easier and remember you are their voice and although they may not show you very often but they will love you so much, you are their guardian angel. they are beautiful boys.
What handsome boys! My sons will be 2 in August and we have not had any vaccines since 6 months because I don’t trust them. I’m waiting untiil they get a little older to get them. I hope my boys will be ok. Yours look like they are making progress. Good luck and I wish you all the best. I hope to see videos in the coming years of happy smiling boys!

Please, please , please dont give up hope or lose faith…both my nephews were diagnosed with severe autism at ages 3 and 4, and today the older is 23 and a professor for IT technology with a masters degree in Electronic engineering. the younger is 21 and entering Brandeis University with honors because of his 4.2 GPA and he will be learning neuroscience forensics.. We never imagined they would have made it this far!!! It takes love, patience, tears and always believing in miracles!!
